Williams & Co are pleased to announce that we have some wonderful news to share! From our small beginnings in Portsmouth in 1972 as a local Plumbing and Heating Trade Merchant, we’ve grown to become a real presence in the industry nationally with 36 trade counters and 3 regional fulfillment centers across England and a Same Day delivery service across the country.

Last year we were delighted to share news that as well as making it on to the London Stock Exchange’s top 1000 companies to inspire Europe – click here for more info – we were also very pleased to announce at the end of 2018 that we had achieved Two Star “Outstanding” accreditation status from The Sunday Times “100 Best Companies to work for” competition.

But we didn’t stop there. At the awards ceremony last Thursday in Battersea Park, we were announced as number 76th on the list itself. Out of all entries in the UK, we are rated as the 76th best company to work for. Not too shabby!

This is truly epic news for us, and – we hope – the industry. We’re working ceaselessly to make Williams & Co the best plumber’s merchant in Britain for our chosen customer type, AND the best employer in our sector. While our ‘Excellent’ 9.7 Trustpilot score is evidence of the standard of our service, we hope that this most recent accolade from The Times proves that we’re making inroads to become the best employer, too.

In MD Ray Stafford’s own words “I can’t make this a great place to work. Along with colleagues in the senior leadership team, I can make mistakes which wreck the workplace culture, but even our best work will not make it great. The very most that the senior team can achieve is to create an environment in which everyone else can make it a great place to work. Workplace culture comes from a thousand little interactions with team colleagues and how your line manager treats you when you are going through a tough time, whether your ideas are listened to, and lots of other, relatively small things which collectively can make or ruin every day. Everyone contributes, but the supervisors, team leaders, assistant managers and branch and department managers are amongst the most critical in making or breaking the workplace culture.”

“I would like to congratulate Willliams & Co on their achievement of a  Two Star Accreditation status and being named as one of the UK’s Best Companies to Work for. Best Companies have been producing the Accreditation standard since 2006 to acknowledge excellence in the workplace. We are proud that organisations like Williams & Co focus on their employees and have been rewarded with an engaged workforce who tell us that they’re a best company to work for.”  – Founder and CEO, Sunday Times Best Companies to Work For magazine
